Help your local primary school win iPads!

We’re giving away double nominations in the YellowLocal.co.nz Schools iPad Competition and we’d like you to help rally support for participating primary schools in winning this fantastic new technology.

From Monday 8 August for every registration on YellowLocal.co.nz we’ll give the selected primary school two nominations. That’ll mean it should take half as long for your school to earn an iPad!

Here’s your chance to get behind your local school so forward this email to your mum, best friend, neighbour or even your local hairdresser and get them to register on YellowLocal.co.nz. Their selected school will receive two nominations instead of one.

The more people who register and nominate your local primary school the closer they get to winning those iPads! Double nominations are only available until 21 August 2011, that’s if the iPads aren’t all snapped up.

I feel to even have a website is an achievement of its own - well done:) I know as time goes by there will be more exciting additions for our parents and children to enjoy and be informed at the same time.

1.Is kind of empty:
a.May be photos of students in action in class or play ground or performance outside representing school may be included.
b.May be resources to help parents buddy up with children in their learning pathway.

Thank you for your suggestions. We will continue to work on those areas which you have highlighted. The website is a little on the empty side for now but as time passes it will fill up as this is a work in progress.

Child HOP cardholders must renew the concession on their HOP card by 31 March 2012

There are a few ways you can renew the concession on your card...

Online at MYHOP.CO.NZ

By downloading a form from MYHOP.CO.NZ or from the file attachmet below, completing it, enclosing the necessary documentation and mailing it to the FREEPOST address provided on the form.

By picking up a form at Britomart, Newmarket or New Lynn Transport Centres and mailing it back to Auckland Transport for FREE or drop it back to any of the transport centres.

The Green Paper for Vulnerable Children

The Green Paper for Vulnerable Children: Norm Hewitt asks us to “Say something and change children’s lives.”

Like me, as parents I’m sure you feel angry and sad another every time another child is deliberately hurt – or worse – by their caregiver. Each year, around 10 of our children – our own tamariki – are killed by the very people they are supposed to rely on for protection, while at least 160,000 children are living in conditions that mean they are unlikely to reach their potential. We know the factors that make these children vulnerable – the big question is how can we fix them? What needs to change to make New Zealand a great, safe place to bring up kids?

These are the types of questions the Government’s Green Paper for Vulnerable Children asks. Released in July last year, this discussion document is asking what we think should be changed to ensure all children reach their full potential. We need as many New Zealanders as possible to answer – it doesn't matter what you say; you just need to say something. We aren’t powerless to stop child abuse – this is something we can all do to help.

Please take the time to go to www.saysomething.org.nz and have your say. You can also mail in a submission, or post comments on Facebook or Twitter. After the submissions are read, a Children’s Action Plan will be developed and released during 2012. As parents, you know what it’s like to raise a child in New Zealand; you are the experts. So, please, do your part to become part of this critical conversation. Submissions close on February 28.
